Youth Work

WHAT IS IT?

Our Youth Work programmes will provide you the skills you need work with young people. You’ll learn how to establish and maintain relationships with youth, within a framework of Te Tiriti o Waitangi, ethics and relevant legislation. You’ll learn valuable tools to help you nurture the development and safety of young people.

WHERE WILL IT TAKE ME?

Our courses are designed to give you a broad understanding of youth work in a New Zealand context. A qualification in Youth Work (Level 4) will help you move from voluntary to paid employment in this sector and set you on the pathway to further education such as the Diploma in Health and Well Being (Applied Practice) (Level 5) or higher.

People that work with our youth may be employed in a wide range of settings and organisations from schools, marae and community support groups to church groups and recreation programmes.

“I chose to do this course to help our youth make better choices, to be confident in who they are and gain a better sense of belonging.”

Dianne is halfway through her Youth Work training. She chose Workforce Development as the smaller class sizes and one-on-one time with teachers appealed to her and her style of learning. She has found the staff and tutors to be extremely helpful. Dianne is proud of what she has learned so far and is looking forward to the rest of her study. She can’t wait to complete her training and work with the youth of New Zealand.
